Getting Started with Career Coaching

Simple answers about what career coaching is, how it works, and whether it's right for you.

What actually happens in career coaching? Is it just someone reviewing my resume?

No. A resume check is only a small part of it. Career coaching helps you get clear about where you are now and where you want to go next. We look at your mindset, your story, and your plan — not just your paperwork. If you only needed your resume fixed, you would hire an editor. You are here because something bigger feels stuck.

How is career coaching different from asking a friend in HR for help?

Your friend wants to be kind. I want to be accurate. A friend tells you what sounds nice. A coach tells you the truth: what a hiring manager really thinks in the first few seconds, why your LinkedIn is turning people away, and where unintended signals are hiding in your words. Friends protect your feelings. Coaching protects your results.

I don't know what I want to do next. Can coaching still help me?

Yes. Most people start here. "I don't know what I want" often starts with "I know what I don't want." We start by looking at patterns — what tires you out, what do you no longer want? What excites you, what you've been told isn't practical? You don't need the answers yet. You need a way to find them.

How long does career coaching take?

It depends on your goal. Fixing your resume and job search story can take a few weeks. A full career change — a new field, a new title, sometimes even a new sense of who you are — usually takes three to six months. If someone promises a full career change in ten days, they are selling a feeling, not a real plan.

What is the Clarity Blueprint Session? Is it right for me if I'm just looking around?

The Clarity Blueprint Session is where almost everyone starts. In this one session, we map out exactly what feels stuck, what it's costing you, and what a real next step looks like. If you're just exploring, this is a safe, low-cost way to find out if coaching is right for you. Either way, you leave with more clarity. I also have accessible career guides for every step of the way at https://yvonnelee.gumroad.com/ if you aren't ready to talk.

Do you work with people at every career stage, or just executives?

I spent 20+ years in senior HR and operations leadership. That means I've been the person trying to move up, and I've also been the person deciding who moves up. So I work with people at many stages — someone stuck mid-career, or a leader facing a big decision. I don't just do basic entry-level resume formatting. That's not where I help the most.

Can I do coaching while I'm still employed and keep it private?

Yes. Most of my clients are still working. It's actually a smart time to do this — you have income, you have leverage, and you're not desperate. Everything we talk about stays private. You decide if, when, and how you tell your current employer anything.

Still have questions?

The best next step is a Clarity Blueprint Session. It's a real conversation, not a sales pitch.
